31 Days: Weight Loss {Day 2: Take Out the Trash}

One of the first things I did once I had resolved to stand down, die to myself, and allow God to resurrect my health, was to take a good look at my surroundings. In other words, I took out some trash.
First, I went through my freezer. Being a good ol’ fashioned rocky road kind of girl, I dumped all the things that were standing in my way to good health: ice cream. Anything I liked that proved itself sinful, I chucked. Don’t worry about wasting money or saving it for the kids or your husband, remember you are removing anything standing in the way of you and Jesus. Just make it move.
Next, I hit the pantry. Anything I would bake and then eat the entire pan, I chucked, especially cake mixes and sugary late night cereals. If I don’t need them, neither does my family. This choice made my family a more cohesive healthy family. Making good choices is infectious. I love to see my kids make choices on their own knowing they have learned from Christ’s example in myself.
Then, I went through the fridge. I made choices in dairy products, got rid of soda, fatty yogurts, sugary juices, made changes in mayo, salad dressings, anything that would make me stumble. If it isn’t there, you won’t eat it.
Finally, I got real with myself. I went through every stash spot in the house and got rid of chocolate. I know maybe for some of you, that may be most difficult. I really thought it was harsh. To be honest, I pouted like an errant child that day. I was borderline angry at the whole world. Angry with myself that I had hidden spots of sin. Angry with myself that I was really going to throw out the good stuff that cost good money. Just angry with my sin. It is ok, be angry. Just throw it out anyway! I am almost two years on the other side of that day, and I miss chocolate the least. Truth, my friend.
You will feel better knowing that nothing stands between you and Jesus. Leave no sin left covered. Get rid of it. Confess it. Repent it. Move forward beyond it. It is as easy as that. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery,” (Galatians 5:1).
Why remove the sin?
Your relationship with Christ depends upon it.
Your health depends upon it.
Don’t let anything stand between you and Christ, my friend.
Much love,
